Jimmy and Poker

I've been playing poker for about three years as a means to supplement my income. I've played most of the common poker variations but I guess 90% of the time I play hold 'em. Currently I'm mostly playing Rounders STT tournaments online, although in general I play mainly MTTs since that's where most of my profit has come from in the past.

I guess my biggest poker highlight was winning a trip to the Deauville EPT tournament in January 2006. I won the entry through playing in a league tournament run by Betfair for people who posted on the Betfair Poker Forum. The event was a great experience but let's not talk about how I played ;)

Poker Sites

For online poker I'd recommend Betfair Poker and Bet365 Poker. I've tried quite a number of different sites and these are the ones I like the best, although its always worth experimenting with new ones from time to time. The next one I'll be checking out is pkr.com. I haven't found time yet, but it looks quite an interesting site making an attempt to bridge the gap between online poker and live poker. Then again, I suck at live poker so maybe its not such a good plan!

Poker Books

If you're learning to play its well worth getting your hands on a few books. There's a lot of good poker books out there these days, but these are the ones I own that I recommend:

For general hold 'em advice: Hold 'em Poker, by David Slansky and Mason Malmuth. Doyle Brunson's Compilation Super System 2 is well worth a read as well, and features strategy for other poker variants too.

For tournament play: Dan Harrington and Bill Robertie wrote an excellent three-volume series called Harrington on Hold 'em. Well worth a read!

For live play: Caro's Book of Poker Tells is a decent read. The author Mike Caro is always full of great poker advice.

You should be able to find them all on Amazon. Its also well worth getting advice from people on a forum. I recommend the Betfair poker forum, which I posted on quite extensively for a couple of years. I haven't had time to post there recently but its a great resource.
