"I don't want to
achieve immortality
through my work.
I want to achieve it
through not dying!"

Advantage Technical Consulting

2004-2007

From January 2004 until September 2007 I worked in Farnham at Advantage Technical Consulting, now part of Atkins, as an Analyst/Programmer. I worked mainly in the Defence sector, providing consultancy to the MoD. Types of projects included statistical cost modelling of MoD acquisitions, the development of a wargame simulation software (think Sid Meier's Civilization in real-time and customised to the UK armed forces) and simulation of the targetted effectiveness of missile warheads. I also did some database work for the Home Office and the Anglian Water Company as well as developing a number of small in-house software tools.

Post-Doc

2003

Whilst completing my D.Phil thesis, I was employed for a couple of months as a Junior Post-Doctorate researcher working on the effect of ionic surfactants on the surface tension and other physical properties of free surfaces. I developed upon work begun by other members of the department and produced the first draft of a paper for publication.

Teaching

2000-2002

During the course of my D.Phil studies I held a number of teaching appointments both within Oxford University and with local teaching agencies. These appointments are detailed here.

Bar Work

1999-2002

Whilst studying at Oxford, I worked part-time at the Royal Oak Pub on Woodstock Road for a number of years as a barman and, from time to time, cook. I also worked for Keble College bar occasionally.

Early work experience

1996-1998

Whilst studying as an undergraduate, I worked two summers at a children's playscheme (supervising and devising activities for 5-12 year olds during the school holidays). The scheme was coordinated by the Stafford Borough Council.

I have also done various small jobs for my Dad at Sandon Hall and once worked at Acton Trussell Fruit Farm picking raspberries and strawberries and getting paid in wasp stings. For a few days.
